Positive Beta Phi Experience
Inspires Scott Savage ’83 to Aid in Capital Campaign
Although Scott Savage ’83 didn’t quite understand and appreciate the dedication of the House Corporation board members as an undergraduate member, he gained perspective from the alumni who would stop by the Shelter; their fraternity experience was important to them. This in turn gave Scott the sense that Beta Phi was a special place to spend college years. His fraternity experience taught him many life skills, including how to get along with people who think differently than you, how to build a consensus, and how to communicate effectively. Most importantly, Scott’s positive DTD experience and gratitude for the place that made Ohio State feel intimate motivated him to support the Beta Phi: Doorway of Opportunity campaign.
By showing his candid support of the campaign, Scott hopes that more alumni will be inspired to make a contribution and show the undergraduate members the power of lifelong brotherhood. “I hope it encourages the undergraduate members to do their part when it’s their time,” he said. Spending time at the Delt house and developing lifelong friendships played a crucial role in Scott’s Beta Phi experience and were certainly underlying factors in his choice to support the campaign. Scott is hopeful that other alumni and undergraduates will find the same fond meaning of their time at the Shelter and choose to pay it forward a little bit, too.
Holding tight to the memories created during his time as an undergraduate member of Beta Phi, such as intramural sports and Greek Week activities, Scott makes it a point to keep in touch with many of his brothers and encourages other alumni to do the same. “Pick up the phone and reconnect with one person, and go from there,” he encouraged.
Scott earned his bachelor of science in business administration. He worked for a Wall Street investment firm after graduation for almost 10 years before he went on to become the founder and CEO of SJS Investment Services, which has branches in Sylvania, Ohio, and Phoenix, Arizona. Scott and his wife, Julie, an alumna of Delta Delta Delta at Ohio State, reside in Sylvania, Ohio. They have three daughters and one son, all of whom participated in Greek life at Miami University, Ohio State, or Arizona State University. As a retired triathlete, Scott enjoys cycling and running in his spare time. If you would like to reconnect with Scott, he can be reached at ssavage@sjsinvest.com.
