Doug Banbury ’88 Wants to Help DTD Sustain Its Position as a Top Fraternity at Ohio State
When Doug Banbury ’88 joined Delta Tau Delta, he joined an outstanding group of aspirational men who shared a mission for success, as individual members and as a chapter. One of his fondest memories from his time living in the Shelter was winning the Greek all-sports trophy every year. “It was something that just took a bit of organization and participation effort—effort that we put forward every year,” he said. As an undergraduate member, Doug held the position of house manager for a year and always appreciated the leadership opportunities afforded by his Beta Phi membership on campus and beyond—leadership opportunities he hopes can still be provided for today’s members. Now more than ever, alumni support is crucial to the chapter’s success and continued growth of the Beta Phi brotherhood.
As much of the east side of The Ohio State University campus has undergone a major physical renaissance, it is essential that Delta Tau Delta remains competitive to attract the finest young men to join the brotherhood. “The dynamics of college living today versus what we were accustomed to in the ’80s have changed dramatically,” he stated. It’s something that he is reminded of as he visits colleges with his high school son. “The planned house improvements are absolutely necessary.” Stemming from his own positive DTD experience, Doug was motivated to support the capital campaign to ensure a bright future for new generations of Beta Phi brothers. “The Delts have always been one of the top fraternities at Ohio State, and we pride ourselves on that,” he said. “We owe it to future generations to make sure they have the facilities necessary to perpetuate that tradition.” Doug believes participation in the effort by a wide group of brothers is important—just like the way the mid-’80s Delts all participated in winning the all-sports trophy each year.
Doug earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting from The Ohio State University. After graduation, he spent 23 years working in finance and investments in New York City before moving to Cleveland in 2011. He is a senior vice president of Hawthorn, a PNC subsidiary that provides family office services and investment advice to several hundred of the nation’s wealthiest families. Doug and his wife, Beth, a Pi Beta Phi from Ohio State, have a son, Reid, who is a high school junior, and a middle school daughter, Ellie. In his spare time, he enjoys golfing, skiing, and road cycling.
